Join us for a virtual workshop with YA Fantasy author Sarah Raughley as part of Canadian Children’s Book Week on May 1st from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM.

This workshop is aimed at teachers of students who are 12+ as well as aspiring teacher-writers. The workshop will focus on: writing craft exercises and lessons; an author Q&A; and an optional feedback session for short writing samples.

The cost for this workshop is free for both ATEQ members and non-members alike. A Zoom link will be emailed to all registrants one day prior to the event.

This workshop is aimed at teachers of students who are 12+ as well as aspiring teacher-writers. In this workshop, Sarah will share short writing craft exercises and lessons to help students. A Q&A will follow the workshop, where participants can ask questions about writing, being an author, pr publishing. There will also be time for participants to share short writing samples for feedback.

About the author: Sarah Raughley grew up in Southern Ontario writing stories about freakish little girls with powers because she secretly wanted to be one. Sarah has been nominated for the Aurora Award for Best Young Adult novel for Legacy of Light, the final book of her first trilogy, The Effigies SeriesThe Lady of Rapture, the final book of her second trilogy, The Bones of Ruin, releases in April 2024. As an academic, Sarah teaches creative writing at Lakehead University. Her research concerns representations of race and gender in popular media culture, youth culture and postcolonialism. She has edited special issues in academic journals such SafundiPopular Music and Society, and Atlantis: Critical Studies in Gender, Culture and Social Justice. She’s also written freelance pieces for The ConversationQuill & Quire and Zora Magazine. She is represented by literary agent Natalie Lakosil (description from The Canadian Children’s Book Centre).
