Silver Birch Award Reading Program

The school bought a Silver Birch membership so that students could participate and select an award winner over the course of the project. Unit activities included making a book trailer, reading and writing book reviews, author visits, and voting for a favourite book among those read during the program.

From the 1920s to the 2020s: The Lasting Impact of the Harlem Renaissance

This unit aims to link literature from the Harlem Renaissance to contemporary literature around the theme of racial consciousness. The unit features a short story by Langston Hughes, which sets the stage for a poetry study that ultimately empowers students to produce multiple poems inspired by what they have studied.
